We are anti sousaphone. Yes, its discrimination.

Those instruments you refer to the other schools having are not tubas -- they are sousaphones. The were designed originally by John Phillps Sousa for marching band. The Mustang Band uses actual Tubas. Reason is once again tradition - it goes with our jazz tradition. The current instrument is a "shotgun" tuba designed to project the sound forward. It sounds better and is louder.

Gotta disagree. Sousaphones are louder all day every day.

Contra tubas produce a better sound. DCI ("professional" marching bands) use them.

the tubas we use are contrabass bugles...the same ones drum corps use. while the sousaphones may be a tad louder, the contras sound WAY better. Sousaphones may be able to project a little more, but i'll take quality tuba over loud, annoying fart-like tuba. and let's be real, the contra tubas are still plenty loud.

Could be playing the contra skin-flute for all I care...just win tomorrow and maintain this momentum into the tournament.

I'm just glad that June Jones, Phil Bennett, and Mike Cavan are gone. Sorry that we let Tom Rossley go.
