Nick King, Pookie Powell both transferring out of Memphis

Nick King and Pookie Powell are both transferring out of the Memphis program, coach Josh Pastner told CBSSports.com early Wednesday morning.

The school subsequently announced the news.

"Nick and Pookie are fine young men and in good academic standing at the university," Pastner said. "We support both players and wish them all the best."

King and Powell are both former top-85 national recruits who started for Memphis before their playing time eventually dwindled. 247Sports ranked King 42nd in the Class of 2013. The 6-foot-7 sophomore averaged 7.2 points and 4.8 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game this season. 247Sports ranked Powell 81st in the Class of 2013. The 6-1 sophomore averaged 4.3 points and 2.7 assists in 15.4 minutes per game this season.

Where Powell might end up remains unclear. But sources told CBSSports.com that Murray State and Ole Miss should be considered the early favorites to land King. It's worth noting that King played summer basketball in high school with Murray State star Cameron Payne

Not surprised by Pookie - not that great. But Nick King could ball.
