Open Ships

I've tried to keep track of scholarships in my head, which got complicated with so much movement, so I compiled the list on paper:

Returning players: Sterling, Ben, Ben, Keith, Marcus, Nic, Semi, and Jordan. Plus three freshmen = 11.

If my list and math are correct, this means two scholarships to fill, assuming all players return and the NCAA stays away. To my basketball-illiterate self, the obvious needs are a fifth year post player who can eat up some minutes and a freshman post player with potential.

I like wilfong and I am all for team chemistry and loyalty - but that seems like a move made on emotion and not the brain. He is never going to contribute meaningful minutes and scholarships are valuable - if for no other reason to keep them aside to give to the NCAA later.

The kids single-handedly saved our APR scores

Does APR only count scholarship players?

Then it is a no-brainer if he has a high GPA.

The NCAA APR calculation provides for a kid who is a walk on to have his GPA count for his walk on years when he is awarded a scholarship.

So Wilfong gets a senior year scholarship and his other 3 years apply to our APR.

The NCAA is such a fraud .

Learn the rules and manipulate the system to your advantage. I know couch'em is now saying it is an April fools joke, but I think it would be smart to reward a walk-on in that way while helping boost our APR scores to avoid any penalties from having it too low.

Every program in America offers smart walk-ons scholarships. You don't need 13 ships. I'm fine w/11 recruited guys, 8 in the rotation

you only have so many bullets. If NCAA takes one away - we still have one for a center. If we gave one of our two to wolfing and the NCAA takes one away, then you have no center. I don't see why you would do this when he will be at the school anyway, even without the scholarship - unless the APR deal is correct.

I don't think NCAA APR takes into the actual GPA, only the progress towards graduation (credits).

Not a perfect metric - but it at least has some teeth to it.
