We all talked about how Avery Johnson Jr. was a major part of A&M getting a great basketball class.

Assuming Jr. follows Sr. (fair assumption?) you think some of the A&M kids jump ship with him?

I think this might be a good hire for Bama. Avery always struck me as more of a college coach than a pro coach. While his son might transfer to Bama I do not think any of the other A&M signees will.

I'm not so sure about that. I heard Avery Jr. was the driving force behind that whole crew going to A&M.

I believe Jr. is a walk on so he should be free to transfer anywhere he wants.

Yes, I am sure he will pull in his Texan Titans connections

I believe when you transfer in conference you have to sit out 2 years instead of one, so he he may decide to stay.

The underwriter of the Titans just had his youngest son graduate. Expect a wind-down of that particular "franchise" soon.

I thought they offered him a scholarship. One of the reasons that he went to A&M instead of SMU.

Close but not quite. If you transfer to a school without a release you have to sit out for two years. Typically releases aren't granted to other schools in the same conference. However, that is up to the school that is granting the release

I will note that if A&M refuses to grant a release to a school where the player's father coaches, it will be used against them on the trail for years and years

Yeah, I think even the Aggies would grant a release for a kid to play for his dad.

Jr is on scholarship. And Yep, I truly believe that if we had offered him one too that all the aggie kids would be mustangs. Jr recruited Davis, then Hogg, and then got the other 2 kids from momentum.

Unless BB is different from FB I do not believe a release has anything to do with one year or two. That would be a conference rule. If you do not get a release you can still go anywhere but cannot receive a scholarship until the time, either one or two years has expired. So if you do not get a release for a school to which you go, you would have to pay your own way until the designated time was up.

Perhaps you are right. Avery Jr wouldn't need a scholarship at Bama, would he? Do Bama employees get free tuition for their kids like at SMU?
