What the hell is going on with these two schools? We have lost A LOT of talent to them. Neither school could care less about Basketball and they play in a worthless conference for competition and coverage....

to think we wouldn't even interview Johnny...Wait till he pulls a miracle and grabs Malik Newman
We didn't lose jack squat to A&M, IMO. You have to be in a kids recruitment to lose it and/or prioritize the kid. We weren't in the game or after most of those A&M kids

To be fair, Orsini was running the search. That's not a fair assessment of what a competent AD would or should do.

Although, without knowing what went on behind the scenes, you would at least hope that the rest of the "search committee" was imploring Orsini to accept all volunteer interviews since he had mastered getting other people raises, whiffed more than Stephen Drew last year, and made SMU a national hoops conversation topic for all the wrong reasons.

To quote our man's "Pony Excess": 'coach, that's not even close'.

I remember reading on another site where the major money donor did not want to interview Johnny. Wanted a bigger name coach or something along those lines.

Plenty happy with Larry, so we are good there.
How can say we were not in the running for DJ Hogg or Elijah Thomas?

I would believe that; don't remember (myself) seeing it 100%. But if that were the case, it would make for an interesting discussion as to whether Orsini, by putting together the "Circle of Champions," invited too many chefs into the kitchen. It's obviously a fine line to walk, but straying too far to one side you wind up having donors dictating strategy and direction, which is never a good thing.

I love Larry, but Johnny would have good, possibly better in certain ways. We were never in the ballpark w/DJ Hogg, and we finished 3rd for Thomas. Thomas was a loss and we spent time on him early, not so much late. From what I understand we barely kept contact the last 4-6 months of his recruitment

It was not the entire circle of champions that were involved in the basketball hiring but just a few. Maybe not enough chefs in this case. But whatever the case Johnny Jones wanted to be at LSU anyway and he is doing a good job there and we got LB.

Ended up being a major impediment on the football side. The problem with it (besides the obvious of taking the decision-making away from the supposed expert that was hired to make the decisions) is that the donors with the most $$$$ get their way, and the donors in the circle with less $$$ end up feeling alienated
