Never been more proud to have LB at SMU

Postby East Coast Mustang » Tue Sep 29, 2015 10:31 pm

Here's a guy who should be golfing and living up his retirement on his Knicks' buyout right now, but he's here at a school that was a punchline when he came here, and on the worst day of his tenure at SMU, he says, when asked about guys potentially transferring "I'm confident they love this school as much as I do." Gosh, we're lucky to have him here and I hope we have him for years to come

Joe Paterno covered up child rape for a decade at Penn State
Dave Bliss tried to cover up a murder at Baylor
Art Briles tried to cover up a rape at Baylor
Gary Patterson's players were running a drug emporium at TCU, beating women, and are now stealing from students and beating them up
...and there's a million other examples of college coaches overseeing programs where their student athletes and subordinates were involved in far worse activities than an online class. Let's never cede the moral high ground; everything we've ever been accused of in our athletic programs have been victimless crimes. The same can't be said for many other universities

well said ECM, needed to hear that. And knowing Larry wants to see Keith succeed as a man and become a professional, how could he just walk away from a situation like this. I stand behind him, and look forward to our appeal.

Yep. And this is a message to future recruits -- we've got your back no matter what (as long as you don't rape women or beat them or commit some other felony). It would've been easy to kick Keith to the curb and let him fend for himself at some JUCO but we stuck by him. #FOE

Let's not forget that Vanderbilt's then head coach tried to coerce a rape victim into not filing rape charges after being gang raped by members of the football team.

College athletics is literally full of [deleted] scumbags... Larry Brown isn't one of them. Unfortunately, the NCAA is also full of [deleted] scumbags that seem to care more about punishing a small school that is trying to compete than anything else...

I'm so glad to read these sentiments. As I think all will agree, being an SMU fan is like wandering around in the desert...for decades. I also believe Larry Brown is a good man going through a difficult period, as we all are. Our future will be determined by our resolve going forward. A strong family pulls together. A weak one second guesses, points fingers and generally divides itself. I will always remember and be grateful for the outstanding ambassador he has been. Let's rebuild the SMU spirit which bonds our community. The SMU family is stronger with Larry Brown as a part of it.

Larry is carpet bombed for changing an answer after he thought about it, yet the head of this panel doesn't remember whether they discussed Larry's alleged prior improprieties or not? Now that's rich.

Great thread. I totally agree with ECM on this subject.
