UCF successful appeal of bowl ban

Obviously comparing apples to oranges here....this is pre-2013 when the NCAA apparently said they're cracking down harder, and it was for "widespread sanctions for major recruiting violations," as opposed to academic violations. Still, I thought there was some interesting stuff here:

-In a release the NCAA wrote that its Committee on Infractions "determined the football postseason ban is excessive such that it constitutes an abuse of discretion."

-UCF was charged as a school by the COI with a "lack of institutional control," a serious charge which I believe we did not get

-The other penalties, which UCF did not appeal, were similar to ours: $50,000 fine, adding two years to UCF's previously proposed three years' probation, basketball scholarship reductions, vacated basketball victories and tighter limits on football recruiting visit days.

-UCF's appeal allowed them to play in the 2012 postseason, and they then risked a 2013 bowl ban. Their bowl ban was then scrapped altogether

We were not found to have lack of institutional control. This type of decision should negate our post-season ban in the appeal process. The penalties on Coach Brown will be upheld, but the post-season stuff will go away.

By the way, who was firm representing UCF? Time to call them!
