I can't believe SMU is not appealing the ban. Penalty is excessive and still don't see the downside to appealing. The damage is already done from a recruiting perspective. What school doesn't appeal? Yes I know about the new punishment guidelines but it makes smu look spineless. You all deserve medals for supporting smu for the past 20+ yrs

well, employees of SMU did commit academic fraud which translates to a level one violation which comes with post-season ban. Only issue is when to take the inevitable punishment. Really stinks for this year's seniors who had nothing to do with this. Nic and Markus in particular will most likely look back at their post season experiences with SMU with nothing but disappointment...should have played in 3 NCAA tourneys, should have won that NIT, should have advanced to at least the sweet 16 last year, etc, etc... Jordan may question why he decided to play his final year at SMU
I will be interested to see what the chemistry of this team will be this year and how the guys will "get along" with Keith. This team's character will be tested

yes, Reed, many of us have been masochists to endure the crap we have had for the last 20+ yrs. I expect that a lot of fans will now wise up, see that rgt is a spineless coward who quakes when the ncaa farts and pass on supporting the university in the future.

I know about the fraud and have probably read more about it than the avg SMU fan...that being said you do not appeal because you are innocent. You appeal the sentence, even if you don't expect to win. Also, to me it makes SMU look more guilty to your average, uneducated college hoops fan.

bingo and bingo. There is no down side to an appeal. And frankly - we would have won. THey have the discretion to change it - everybody acting like this is like a mandatory sentence is wrong. Committee one does not have that discretion. Committee two does have that discretion.

Great post Reedfrawg. People also forget that we can appeal and still be banned this year if you choose not to stall (even assuming we lose the appeal). That kills the argument of hurting the program longer term.
