A Few Truths...

In times like this, don't be emotional, this is a program. Don't talk to me about the humanity of cutting Nic and Markus' throats, if it saves the program long term. Look, there are a few truths that seemingly everyone gets, other than this board.

1) The loan wolf rogue secretary is a pawn, tied neatly in a bow, then made off limits.
2) The NCAA ruled on LB the way they did b/c he knows where the bodies are buried and I'd expect they think its a mass grave, not just Keith's incident
3) Larry Brown is the Godfather
4) By backing the Godfather, in light of all this, especially when everyone knows our/his story is utterly unbelievable, makes us FAMILY.

This is SMU basketball and you either can deal w/all of that or you can't, but stop making excuses for what we are and aren't. We're freaking filthy or were and that's ok. Just don't lie to yourself about how this program was built and why it will prevail. Remember when Brown took over and told everyone but 3 guys to go the eff away, 'you're not good enough''? How is that any different than writing off Markus/Nic so we can recruit freely in '16 and '17? By not being greedy in appeal, you hope you get schollies back etc. This move was made so we wouldn't bottom out as a program and if that means Nic and Markus, so be it.

So, sack up. All of this was done w/program in mind, not two kids that may be special to you, but they're hired snipers. The junior class, who gets to compete for a postseason next year, are all 4 yr SMU kids. Somebody was going to get cut up

Great post...this makes a lot of sense. Don't think most SMU fans want to acknowledge it...

i guess we will know if we are serious about the "program" if we replace a recruiter and make sure we have at least two really good ones out there. Until then it isn't going to be a program, but a moment in time. If a moment in time, then we needed to appeal to make the moment happen.

If we get another good recruiter than i will know we are a program. Until then, i will remain unhappy with this decision, and i will add we were wussies for not pressing.

that "lack of coach control" is a classic...translated means "we think you are dirty but know we can't prove it" which tells me the NCAA will be laying in wait for SMU given another opportunity to come after us.

Being nice to the NCAA should certainly cause them to be kind to us on reducing the other sanctions. They were certainly eased up on us when we were kind of enough to self report all this. But we'll see.

Its defeatist to say moment in time b/c this was always about the investment, not the name players. SMU hoops can be damned good if it commits to being damned good. Sustainability isn't about the Larry Brown era, that's just the springboard. What choice is there, if we want P5?

As for filthy, I'd contend we had a two year stretch as seedy as any anywhere

I like you as a poster and as a die hard SMU fan. The administration is absolutely behind the basketball program. Our only fault well other than cheating, albeit a major one, is using an attorney with no NCAA experience to draft our penalties. Look who Louisville just hired, an ex NCAA investigator. Once we realized it was too late, well it was too late. This decision was made with the approval of the football and basketball coaches along with numerous well heeled attorneys.

hoopmanx - do you agree we have only one really good recruiter right now? If this is an investment we have to have more oars in the water. If we aren't going to invest in recruiting, we made the wrong decision.

Im honestly interested in your opinion, since i think you follow all that better than anyone on this board.
