New (Oct. 14) statement from Rick Hart

Postby PonyPride » Thu Oct 15, 2015 10:40 am

“Part of the mission of SMU Athletics is to ‘prepare students for life.’ Our student-athletes who shared their opinions today represent just what SMU prides itself on – World Changers Shaped Here. All students should have the opportunity to make up their own minds on important matters and to take positions of leadership in defending their positions. We will continue to work with and support our student-athletes on matters that impact their experience. Student-athletes at all levels have a greater voice in NCAA issues, and their input is valuable as we, the member institutions, shape the future of the NCAA and its processes.

“We understand and share the men's basketball student-athletes' disappointment over the NCAA sanctions, however, the severity of the violations that SMU acknowledges occurred mandates at minimum a one-year post-season ban according to the new NCAA penalty structure – a structure approved by the NCAA membership. We deliberated carefully and discussed our options with campus leaders as well as internal and external counsel, and, after careful consideration, we decided not to appeal the NCAA post-season ban or partial season suspension of Coach Brown. Coach Brown and his staff agreed that it is in the best interests of the program to accept these sanctions and move forward. We will all rally behind our Mustang student-athletes, showing them our unwavering appreciation for their contributions to the vitality of SMU.” – Rick Hart, Director of Athletics

This nonsense is really beginning to chaff my arse. This whole deal with accepting the mandatory one year penalty which everyone approved with the new rules? Are you Es-hitting me? What that amounts to is that despite knowing that this was going to be the penalty the school made no mention of it to their fans and continued to pretend that they had instituted reasonable sanctions on themselves. It's a sick joke. We didn't fire the coach, we put him on a leave of absence, we didn't stop the student playing, and we sure as feck didn't breathe a word of the major sanction while we went out and about renewing season tickets.

You may notice that you are the only one with this opinion. I don't think you understand how this works. It it's a little different than the gaelic football club at Dublin U.

I am not remotely worried about being the only one who sees it this way. Feel free to enlighten me on what part of this is wrong and how. But using the lemmings argument isn't a great start.

You want to fire the AD for minor isolated academic fraud. That's like revoking a driver's license for doing 5 over the speed limit.

Even if we believe that this was isolated, it is a clear indication that Rick Hart is unable to manage even a minor matter such as this. Maybe you would rather wait until he fouls up something bigger?
He was unable to manage this situation at every turn. I've seen enough. I like the guy but I don't think he is what we need.

Ahhh, so he is the best we can get? That may be the best reason to keep him.

you haven't asked, but that is all you ever [deleted] about. If you can't afford the seats let them go, but please just stop the whining. Rick Hart will be here as long as he wants to be. He is the best AD we have had in forever.

No, It's like doing 5 over the speed limit and rushing to the police station to turn yourself in and then they sentence you to 20'years in prison
