Scholarship ReductionHow does Nic & Markus leaving at mid-season, work towards our scholarship count and the NCAA mandated reductions? They already have us on the books for playing 2 down this year, but we could be 4 or 5 down by December. How does that all play in?
Re: Scholarship Reductionas far as I know there is no precedent for a prominent player in a money sport transferring at mid-season and being immediately eligible. Never heard of it. Switching jerseys on December 20-that's never happened. I still have a hard time believing it. Seems to me more likely that NCAA would let them transfer at midseason and be immediately eligible BUT ONLY if they didn't waive that right after they were notified of the probation by suiting up with SMU in November-December 20

Re: Scholarship Reduction
That's what's called a subtle hint or foreshadowing, folks
Re: Scholarship ReductionThey would probably have to not play first semester for any of this to work is my guess. At that point, you'd be eating 4 schollies this year and only have 5 to spread over 3 years.

Re: Scholarship ReductionI'm tired of sports crying.
Re: Scholarship ReductionBoth of them leaving mid-season? what?
Re: Scholarship ReductionAll of this is so convoluted and w/o definitive answers. NCAA strikes again
Re: Scholarship Reduction
In regards to what? did I miss something?
Re: Scholarship ReductionNCAA rules state that if a player is ineligible for postseason in his final year(s) of ineligibility due to probation then he can immediately transfer. That would mean Seniors could transfer due to 1 year probation and Juniors due to 2 years probation. What is murky is whether they can transfer at mid-term after suiting up for SMU in first term AFTER notification of probation

Re: Scholarship Reduction
well, there is confusion as to what it means to our schollie count, if they leave. Furthermore, is it dependent on when they leave? Are they eligible right away as has been reported but not verified etc?
Re: Scholarship ReductionIf they are allowed to leave at mid-term I'm pretty sure we could add at midterm. But again I doubt its ever happened like this. We also could probably count those scholarships off the -7 we owe over 3 next years but the wording of the NCAA holding I thought said those 7 were to come off starting in 2016-17 season. I bet we could get a waiver on that

Re: Scholarship ReductionHow often has it happened that a post season ban was handed down after classes started ?
Re: Scholarship ReductionI'm pretty sure that's happened numerous times-but I don't really have an example. It was handed down before the season started

Re: Scholarship Reductionso the hypothetical is that all three seniors leave in Jan. Does that mean we have fulfilled 5 of our 9 scholarship limitations (2 credited plus the three) - or does the scholy have to be a full year. Have the appeal drop us from 9 to 5, and then three seniors leave with our blessing to go have a fun tournament, and we are back to full strength in 2016.
Re: Scholarship Reductionthe scholarship count is actually off the top. Usually you have 13 but SMU will have to count down 7 more scholarships over following 3 seasons. SMU can choose how to do this. An example could be
2015-16 11 (-2) 2016-17 10 (-3) 2017-18 10 (-3) 2018-19 12 (-1) It can be done IF SMU does not miss on their commitments "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
