Rivals reports today that although signing date is tommorrow things are just beginning to heat up for Michael Milton and now Tech, Nebraska and Northwestern are getting in the mix after his visit to SMU last weekend. Milton has a 3.3 GPA and a 1140 SAT. He says Bobby Knight is especially high on Milton. Didn't know he was named District Player of the Year in a Top District over Warren Carter. Is Milton our only target. BTW I noticed from the El Paso paper that UTEP may be signing a JC All_American who led his team to the Division 1 championship game and another JC who was the leading JC scorer in the country. Any other recruiting news with signing date tommorrow-btw its not unusual for players to wait several weeks past signing date in BB to sign unlike in FB when 99% of the kids sign on signing date.

From HoopScoop:
"It's been a long time since Mouth of Wilson (Oak Hill) VA head coach Steve Smith had three players still available this late, but that's the case with 6'6 Dion Deacons, 6'9 Byron Joynes, and 6'8 Warren Scott. Obviously Joynes and Scott have the size necessary to draw a lot of interest this spring, but the guy who could turn out to be the steal of the group is Deacons. Not only does he have a 3.8 gpa and 1100 SAT, but we're talking about the leading scorer (16.8 ppg) and leading rebounder (7.6 rpg) on Oak Hill's team this past season. Right now Appalachian State appears to be the leader over Boston University, SMU, and East Carolina, but you can bet that Virginia Tech will make a late push for Deacons now that Seth Greenberg has the job."

Milton had 9 points, 2 rebounds and 2 blocked shots Friday night in the TABC all-star game, that included some of the states best players. Miltons team came from behind to win, lead by A&M signee Acie Law's 35 points. Law was named MVP, and the other players scoring in double figures included Warren Carter, Lorenzo Williams, and Cartier Martin.

Tech did not offer Milton a scholarship, they want him to walk on with the possibility of getting a scholarship next year, similar to what Nathan Doudney did 2 years ago.

Dion Dacons of perennial super power Oak Hill Academy signed with Temple yesterday. Mikey Michalec, mentioned in a thread below, will transfer to Oral Roberts.

Besides Milton, is there anybody else left on the radar screen? Sure has been a quiet spring.

I think they'll just sit on the 'ship if they don't get Milton. With only Lowe set to graduate in '04, they may want to keep it open as opposed to filling it with a "leftover" this spring.

Milton signed a LOI with Texas Tech. Aparently he's going to get an academic scholarship his first year (3.7 gpa and 1140 SAT) and possibly get a basketabll ship as a sophomore. Tech is currently at their limit for scholarships, but is hedging their bets for next year. They have another kid thats going to a junior college next year that they want to bring in as a sophomore.
