Free Throws & Stats

If we had hit out FT's last night, this game would not have been as tight. We shot 57% from the line, but we were averaging 70%, now 65%. We were in the bonus early too, so it hurt even more given we shot 21 to their 13.
44% Shooting
44% from 3
57% on FT's
Odd stat line...odd game.
On to the next game!

At least three of the misses were the front end of one and ones.

Defending the three and hitting our free pitches have been major problems for us for a while and neither ever seems to get any better.

The Yale game would have not been nearly as close if we could have closed out and not gone cold on free throws in the final few minutes. Same with last night and even the Brown game to a lesser extent.

Every year it seems like we start off sloppy on the line and really pick it up after the break.

Free throws are the most frustrating and baffling part of our game for me (even more so than 3 pointers, which is annoying but I've also somewhat given up on improving because it would take a new defensive strategy that we don't seem interested in).
It's annoying to not feel like some of the upperclassmen like Markus or Ben have improved much in their 2+ years here from the free throw line.

Tolbert has gone cold recently also. Given his strength, athleticism, and aggressiveness, he will continue to get fouled quite a bit methinks. If he can be a 70% FT shooter, that would be huge.

Ben moore and MK have improved from 3 years ago they were just off tonight. Shake missing both free throws was the one that got me frustrated.

When we struggle or lose there are usually two culprits:
1) Perimeter defense
2) Free throw shooting

I would say when we lose it is because of a) turnovers and b) bad offensive execution down the stretch (remeber last year when there would be 5 minute periods where we just couldn't score?). The only game I can think of that we lost because of 3 point shooting might have been the lousiville game 2 years ago when their best player just went off.
