Obviously, it's big that LB returns Friday. Recruiting wise, I'm sure Kapita will be the first order of business. Hopefully Scout will have an update soon.
Tomorrow we could have the highest AP ranking in ages. I think there's a chance we get up to #15. BTW, what is the highest SMU has ever been ranked?
Two home games next week against cupcakes. I hope we have good turnouts. These guys definitely deserve it.

Wasn't SMU in the top 5 at one point in the '80s?

I don't think we move up IMO (although I would love to be proven wrong). Yes we stomped Michigan, but who are we going to jump? The closest team to us that lost is #14 West Virginia, but they lost to #10 Virginia.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketb ... 016/poll/1Side note: last week, only 8 out of the 65 voters did not rank us. I'm interested to know how many of those 8 aren't giving us votes out of principle (cough cough Dickie V)

SMU loss to Texas Tech on Tony Benford's last second shot in Lubbock is all that kept SMU from being the No. 1 team in the Country as I believe the No. 1 team North Carolina had lost earlier in the day. I was there on that dreadful nite

CHristmas 1984 we were undefeated and ranked 4th and had a chance to move up, but lost to Chaminade at their Christmas tournament in Hawaii. A month later SMU had moved back up to #2, its highest ever ranking, but then lost to an unranked Texas Tech team, and our ranking slid down slowly but steadily. By the end of the year we were out of the polls completely, and never saw the top 5 again. The Texas Tech team that we lost to was also unranked until the final poll of the year, but they won the SWC title that year.

I think it was Georgetown at #1, and Carolina was below us. St. Johns became the the new #1 after the rest of us stumbled.

I don't remember in what round, but that was year that Loyola Chicago eliminated SMU in the NCAA tournament. I was in H.S. at the time, but oddly enough ended up attending college at both of those universities.

I think I might still have the front page of the Dallas Morning News Sports Section from the week that SMU was ranked #2. It was a big picture of Coach Dave Bliss with some building blocks in front of him.

Some one posted a YouTube of the with either highlights of the Chamanade game a while back. That Tech loss knocked out season off the rails.
Basketball was a whole lot of fun in the mid 80s. Think about the greatness of Moody with 3k more seats and playing the likes of Houston and Arkansas with Olijawon and Joe Klein.
It's so great that we have it going again.

It will be interesting to see how the Kapita situation or recruiting in general changes when LB gets back...

That Tech game was disappointing because we had erased a 11 point deficit in just a couple of minutes with a furious comeback but got beat in final seconds. Here's a game story confirming it was Georgetown who had lost earlier in the Day and SMU was likely playing for No. 1 spot

We beat the Tar Heels in Greensboro on Carl Wright's last second shot. They were #1 and were #2. Then the wheels came off. Got a ticket to that game from a friend in the Maryland A.D.'s office.
