Got a response from Toohey

Sent Toohey and his editor, and the AP editors an email calling Toohey's vendetta ridiculous. Got this response. Gotta give him credit for sticking to his guns.

------------
First, thank you for your email. The reason I have not voted for SMU in the AP poll, even though the Mustangs are eligible under AP standards, is not out of a vendetta. Nor is it a political statement or bring attention to myself, but a voting philosophy. I don't vote for teams that are not eligible for the post-season.
It's really that simple. I have nothing against SMU. If the NCAA suddenly changed its mind and said SMU was no longer on probation, I'd vote for the Mustangs in a heartbeat.
AP gives each voter the freedom to vote the way we please and my philosophy is that I don't vote for teams on probation.

Sincerely,

Terry Toohey

Is he truly consistent with this? Someone should go through is past ballots as there have been some really good teams on probation.

His editors can't do anything. You'd have to find an AP poll rule he's breaking and contact the AP to force a change.
Otherwise we are just griping and he's not gonna change his mind.

Exactly. We can be hopeful that pressure and exposure to his higher-ups makes him cave.

Well, that is just an incorrect way to vote. If AP says on probation is eligible, then he should put us in there. He shouldn't make up his own rules. This isn't the coaches poll.

Are we really stalking AP voters now?

According to one of the links on one of these threads, the AP expectations say you vote according to the performance of the teams. He seems to be ignoring this expectation, IMHO. Not voting for us because we are ineligible for the post-season has nothing to do with our performance on the court right now?

I have no problem with this at all. They should be allowed to vote however they like and that's a pretty sound reason. The other major poll actually mandates this thinking. I give him credit for emailing back.

It's a stupid reason. The ap poll should reflect the knowledge of its writers. I actually wonder what the AP sports editors think of this?
