Gabrielle Wilkins Named To Conference Weekly Honor Roll
Lone Senior Clinches Two Comeback Wins, Records Two Double-Doubles in Week Nine
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Gabrielle Wilkins was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll for the first time this season after recording two double-doubles and clinching two come-from-behind victories for the Mustangs at the free throw line.
Over the three-game span, the senior guard produced 12.7 points and 11 rebounds per game, with 11 assists and seven steals. Wilkins recorded her third and fourth career double-doubles over the span, scoring 18 points with 10 rebounds against Temple, before finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds at then-No. 22/18 USF the following game. Wilkins is averaging 8.8 points per game this season, and grabbing an average of 5.2 rebounds per game.
The Garland, Texas, native clinched two last-second comeback victories for the Mustangs, converting two free throws against Temple at home and Houston on the road. Wilkins shot 75 percent in week nine, going 9-for-12 from the free-throw line, including a perfect 5-for-5 performance against Temple. The lone senior on the roster is now shooting 77.4 percent from the free throw line.
The SMU women’s basketball team hosts Memphis Saturday at 2 p.m. to open a three-game homestand. The Mustangs are 9-5 all-time against the Tigers. The last game in Dallas was Jan. 7, 2014, where SMU won 80-75 in double overtime.
