is smu starting to get new fans in basketball due to the last 2 years,
are we seeing any significant gains in dallas media or national media.
we missed a chance last year to have a Cinderella type of run in NCAA.
right now SMU basketball fans on facebook is at 11k,where as football is only at 6k.

any thoughts.

I run into a lot of basketball fans at Moody who have no affiliation with SMU, some with season tix and some just checking it out. If you're a college basketball fan and you live in Dallas, Moody is a must visit. I think most people know that now. As long as we keep winning, the base will continue to grow. Very similar to what TCU has done in football.

I see a lot of "New" SMU Basketball fans.

People who have been at SMU Boulevard spots for many years (at least for the first 2-3 games of the year) that you would never see inside of Moody until recent times.

Not sure if you call these "New" fans or not - but they were not there a few years ago...

We have lots of new fans, but they're proving to be very fickle . . . just like our old fans. As shocking as this is to me, I know people (including a floor seat season ticketholder) that walked away from the program when SMU jacked up the donation. I have seen emails from ticketholders to athletics as well as heard of numerous calls to athletics where season ticketholders threatened to not renew because SMU didn't appeal the postseason ban. We have others that were unaffiliated with SMU but wanted competitive college athletics in Dallas. Many of these have distanced recently as well.

Aside from these, now I get repeated requests from out-of-towners who want to come in for a basketball game but wouldn't go with me 5 years ago. I have taken a number of people to games that have added season tickets or bought one-offs on their own.

Keep winning and keep selling beer at the games and Dallas will embrace us.

Definitely. We seriously used to convince people that they should go to an SMU MBB game. Now people call to ask if we're using our tickets. And like I said, it's not just alumni. My wife went to UT (god love her), and she's taken a bunch of her friends when I've been out of town for work. They all follow SMU now.

You outlasted others. The guy I was referencing was courtside floor and left at the first donation before they jacked it up to $5000 + $1000 per.

I'm happy with my current basketball seats and the dollars

Glad someone with more money is able to enjoy them get the revenue while you can.

And who are those guys your wife's bringing to the game while you're out of town?

One thing not mentioned - we are locking in the current undergrads who previously drift off after graduation. This is no small potatoes and will pay dividends down the road.
