This story about the Magnificent Seven of SMU basketball will stay in the public eye in some form through this season and, for the faithful at least, long after. Maybe there is some popular sympathy for SMU and particularly because of the bad goal tending loss last year.
I know this subject has been talked out in earlier threads and mine will probably be rated one of the dumbest questions ever on PONYFANS.COM, but is there any chance that SMU could make an appeal NOW to have the post season ban lifted inasmuch as the coach and player involved are gone?
Put differently, could there be made a case now to overturn the NCAA action to benefit the seniors?

Only hail Mary would be a class action lawsuit by the players in federal court trying to find a loop hole to litigate on. Not likely at all, but you never know.

Courts aren't going to meddle into the business of a private association of schools when one of its schools doesn't follow the appeal deadlines provided under mutually agreed due process procedures

Even if we could, the same reason for not doing it still is in place now as it was before. It would not be overturned. It could only be delayed. Let's build a future with what these young men are doing this year. This is a team on whom you rally around and let all the big time recruits see what our coaches can do even under the worst of circumstances.

I know it's completely far fetched and will by most any acount never happen, but a point could always be argued on behalf of the players (regardless of merit or standing).
Now getting a federal judge to actually grant any kind of actual relief or order suspending the NCAA's ruling again on behalf of the players is a completely a whole different level.

Completely agree, but I'm not talking about the school rather the players individual rights and wether or not their own rights have been some how infringed on. Go back a read the players statement after the school decided not to fight post season ban. There's some interesting statements in there. Still would love to know who put it together for them.

Can you name me a time in NCAA existence that there has not been innocent collateral damage done to players on teams that have been punished for violations? Of course it is not fair to the innocent but the NCAA has received the authority to govern the schools that agree to participate in their association.
