Next Year's Offense without Nic Moore

Postby MFFL02 » Mon Jan 18, 2016 11:36 am

Watching yesterday's game, did anyone become concerned about our offense next year without Nic Moore? Will it be entirely on Shake and incoming freshman Dashawn McDowell to run the point? When the offense doesn't flow the right way, guys like Ben and Sterling have a tough time getting off.

Will we miss Nic? Yes. Will they figure it out? Yes. I think we will miss his clutch attribute too. However Nic didnt look that great when in the game yesterday. Overall we looked terrible

Trust Larry and Jank - they will get it done! We have the two best coaches in our conference and in Texas.

You always miss a conference player of the year. In addition to Nic's skills (which are very high) he gives the team great leadership and competitiveness. I'm not worried about replacing his skills going forward. Shake, and even Wilson, have a higher ceiling than Nic because for all his skills Nic is a defensive liability against certain matchups because of his height. Replacing his competitiveness and leadership is a question mark. Ben Moore seems ready to step into MK's role as a leader but it will be hard for a sophomore to have that same confidence running the offense and have that killer late game instinct.

Yep. Nic will be a big loss. And adjusting to life after Nic may take some time. I'm confident that we'll be fine though. Will we win our first 17 straight games next season?. . .maybe not. Will we be a tourney team. . .I think so.

If Ben Moore can work on his mid-range shot this offseason and his FT %, he could be a stud next year.

Ben Moore is hitting on 74.1% of his FTs-best among the big men and a huge improvement from freshman year

He is a stud right now. If he could develop a good jumper (which would include a NCAA 3 point shot) he will have a long career in the NBA.

You're right, I didn't realize he jumped that much this year. In that case, he really needs to just work on his outside jumper and probably a bit on post moves.

It was bad enough that they didn't practice leading up to the game.

They mentioned the food poisoning story on SMU radio 770. Said almost the whole team got sick after the ECU game.

As for our offense without Nic Moore, I would be more concerned if there wasn't an offseason to work Shake into the starting role. There are times, like yesterday, that our offense looks completely lost and out of sorts without Nic at PG. I've seen less of that this year than I did in past seasons, though. In fact, until yesterday, I was very satisfied with our offensive production when Nic's on the bench. I think yesterday was just a poor game all around, and is, hopefully, not indicative of what's to come.

Food poisoning makes sense. Everyone's timing was off -- bad passes and I don't believe they had a single alley oop.
