The University of North Carolina has acknowledged that a “shadow curriculum” of “irregular” (aka fake) classes existed which entailed:

23 years (beginning in the 1989-90 academic year)
in which over 1,400 athletes participated
from at least 20 different sports programs
taking a total of 2,645 enrollments in fake classes

22 of the first 25 athlete enrollments in fake classes were by members of Dean Smith’s men’s basketball program

In Dean Smith final 8 years at UNC:
Enrollments in fake classes by sport
MBB - 54
FB - 26
WBB - 2
All other sports combined - 0
(But it's a Women's Basketball issue, right?)

This includes 11 enrollments in fake classes by MBB in the 1992-93 academic year. Smith’s UNC team won the NCAA Tournament that season.
(Other sports accounted for only 2 such enrollments in that academic year)

Sources:
Wainstein Report, Exhibits and Supplements; UNC 2nd Response to SACS; Martin Report

Thought: If 22 of the first 25 enrollees were members of the Carolina Men's Basketball team, how do you think the players became aware of the class and were a disproportionate number of the first enrollees? "Hmmmmm, geez Mr. Hand I don't know...."

It was reported before the new rules took effect so they will probably get a slap on the wrist.

The UNC penalties will cause the whole nation to finally and hopefully take the NCAA down

The problem isn't the "NCAA"-its the P5 schools that control every committee, office and vote of the NCAA. If you want to talk about ending that control then you might achieve something. Be careful what you wish for-if NCAA goes down and organization regroups entirely around the interests of the P5 we are in even worse situation. When the NCAA has focused on improvements in academic standards it actually done some good things-which are often perverted at the P5 school level-see North Carolina's phantom classes

Not likely. Only two scenarios are possible: a) UNC get's it's wrist slapped, and there is a little bit of bloviation in the media for about a week on how the NCAA is unfair and a joke, but big schools and networks are happy as they get to keep playing by their own rules and generate large live audience ratings so nothing will change or b) UNC get's hammered which might spur large institutions (backed by the networks) to walk from NCAA regulation and play their own game (and excluding smaller schools). Which of those scenarios do you think the NCAA is going to walk down?

A few schools (SMU, Syracuse, Hawaii, Louisville) will biatch and moan about the injustice, and a few journalist will write great articles on the obsurdity of the NCAA, but at the end of the day it will all blow over and things will get back to normal. The big state schools know the NCAA will never hammer them so they accept these kind of rulings and when they get caught the other powers will play the game and keep quiet. It's the way the NCAA works, and always will.

Exactly - it is a very affordable cost of doing business for a school in the P5. Lets face it - the P5 controls all the media, most of the fans, all of the NCAA and 95% of the money. That is an unbreakable cartel - short of a lawsuit which has standing - which is exceeding difficult to imagine.

The only way to win is to figure out how to get in the game. Our only hope is the DFW market - and we gotta deliver more of it to get in. That takes consistent winning and some national attention. Good start with basketball and football rapidly improving - but it will have to be as sustained as TCU which wont be easy within the amount of time we have.

Allegations and investigations into UNC were revealed prior to the new rules being put in place. The narrative is already nice, neat, and tidy for the NCAA to say they followed the guidelines they and their member institutions agreed upon at that time.

Corruption is easy when you control the narrative. You are all going to be very, very sick to your stomachs when you see the penalties, if any, that are given to UNC.

I agree plus they will point out that LB went to UNC so a UNC alum has already been punished recently and they do not want to pile on.

All this proves is that God will receive a harsher penalty for the NCAA than UNC.
