Re: CowlishawIt seems like we are the only program who appears ambushed by allegations. Didn't we self report this incident!?!--so LB should have expected a "when did you know?" question, right? We must not have any friends/contacts in NCAA circles, nor do we appear to be utilizing our law dept. before these briefings.
Re: Cowlishaw
Would agree. Very disappointing. At least Fox Sport's guy got it right.
Re: CowlishawI don't want to over-lawyer this point. However, the devil is in the details. I would like to see how the questions by the NCAA were phrased. When you deal with investigative groups, they will often times use a word or phrase within a question that implies more than what a regular/ordinary person knows. I think this is where coach Brown has always contended that the mix up occurred.
For example: Q: When did you learn and become aware that the adm assistant took the exam for Keith. A: I learned of that on July 29th. WRONG ANSWER!! Q: When did you learn or become aware that the adm assitant took the exam for Keith. A. I don't know that she took the exam for Keith. I wasn't there when the exam was taken and I don't have personal knowledge of that. Q: When did you become aware that that had occurred and who made you aware. A. I became aware of the possibility, though I don't know it happened, as a result of a conversation with my Asst. Coach. Q. So right now, sitting here, you say, you still don't know that this actually happened? A. No I don't know. I would have to go check computer records, log in times, passwords, access, etc, and I'm not qualified to do that. If he gave the first answer during the first interview, and the second answer during the second, the NCAA concluded that he was lying or not being honest, even if he didn't know. This is why YOU NEED LAWYERS. A great lawyer for SMU compliance.

Re: CowlishawHow about setting a precedent and just being honest with people so you don't have to consult attorneys on what to say? And recruiting kids who are student/athletes and have made the grades in high school and testing and have a chance with support to get a degree from a prestigious institution of higher learning. Hopefully with the success they have had they can upgrade in future classes although I must admit these players now are some good-looking kids, unselfish and fun to watch.
