http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college ... ocals-workI like the thought of having a tourney but as I suggested awhile back, I'd rather it be a battle for Texas instead of DFW. Possible issues - I'm not sure if schools from the same conference will enter the same tourney and I want to play TCU every year regardless. If we are in the tournament there's a chance we miss each other.
Have a Dallas bracket and a Houston bracket. Have the winner of each side meet in the championship.
Dallas:
SMU
TCU
UTA
UNT
Baylor
Texas Tech
UTEP
UTD
Houston:
UH
A&M
Rice
SFA
UT
UTSA
Texas St
Sam Houston

I like this part the best:
It's understandable why SMU would prefer to stay at home for its games every winter and out of any local tournaments. The Mustangs have gone national and have the most to lose of the four programs.

which is why we should never entertain the idea. Hell, I'd ditch TCU too, non-conference. We only have so many games vs P5 squads and ranked opponents to make hay. Play programs that matter. Who liked being told we've played no one while 18-0? Time to really upgrade this puppy

Hell no to a local tourney at a neutral site.
Despite what hoopmanx says, I like the TCU series because we get a home game or an easy road game and the rivalry between the schools resonates with our fans.
I do agree with x when it comes to playing programs that matter and getting teams like michigan and gonzaga into moody is awesome.

TCU might be a rival in football but not basketball. I am with Hoopmanx in that we would be better to upgrade the hoops schedule and not play them every year.

Good luck getting any name program to agree to a home and home with us now. I've heard LB has tried like hell to get name schools to play us in OOC with no luck.

That makes no sense to me. We have been good at basketball for three years. If SMU has a rival it is TCU, I don't care what sport you're talking about.

It looks like we had 12 non-conference games this year (assuming I can count correctly, which can be a stretch). TCU may not always be terrible and they are an hour away. I say we drop some of the other teams before them. We've been good for what, two, maybe three years now? I don't think we need to be anointing ourselves and saying we are too good to play them.
However, HoopmanX has probably forgotten more about the sport of basketball than I can ever hope to know, so I do respect his opinion.

The SMU vs TCU rivalry resonates with our fans in football or basketball. I like that both ADs at the schools have worked to keep the series going in both sports. There are still a ton of open dates in our non conference schedule.

If you mean at home, I can't either (yet). If you mean in general, the NY thing will get us games against two of Marquette, Pitt and Michigan.

It is going to be very hard for us to get strong P5 programs to agree to play us at Moody. Our best bet for quality nonconference opponents is a) tournaments and b) non-P% strong programs. Let's get Butler, Xaiver, Villinova, SDSU, ect to agree to home and homes.

I get that hoopmanx couldn't care less about playing TCU or any Texas schools but the ultimate goal of our athletic department is getting into a P5. Playing TCU, Baylor, UT and A&M absolutely matters in the big picture. Some people think regional rivalries don't matter anymore, but I don't feel that way.

Yeah, I'm wondering if we can rope anyone notable into coming into Moody with our recent success.
Seems like the Thanksgiving and Christmas tournaments might have to do the heavy lifting.
Targeting Big East teams not a bad idea.

I bet you'd have a hard time getting Nova, Georgetown or Xavier to come to Moody.
