Ridiculous note from SMU/USF game

Postby PonyPride » Mon Feb 08, 2016 7:04 pm

SMU's 34-point win over USF was the Mustangs' most lopsided road victory since .... December 1916, when the Ponies' 51-1 victory over Dallas High School (apparently such games counted).

This may have been the best the Mustangs have played all year even if against a lower
echelon team. The ball sharing and passing were outstanding. The assists were
astronomical. The blocking out and rebounding were extremely effective, and the
shooting was on fire. Our hustle and desire were obvious.

Even the CBS announcers were praising our style of play saying that this was a text book
primmer on how to play the game. They said it was exciting to watch a team play with
such precision and effectiveness. I agreed with that 100%, and to think that it was played
on the road is mind boggling.

I hope we can continue to play in that manner for the rest of the season. If we could, we
might well run the table. The announcers also said that we could probably beat any team
in the NCAA playing as they did. Go Mustangs beat Tulsa.

Whoa, tough night for Dallas High. I guess getting blown out by SMU was better than sitting in a rat-infested trench on the Somme though.

Big difference from the 2/15/12 game against UAB at Moody (in front of dozens of fans) who got to watch the team struggled to score 28 points.

On the 100th anniversary of that game, we should give them another shot. Let's Invite Dallas High School to Moody next December for a scrimmage. They would probably bring more fans than TCU!

The US did not enter WW1 until April 1917 so it was not a likely alternative for any of the players that night.

Remember how we booed the player that fouled the Dallas High kid and gave up 1 point?

Edit: sorry. Thought you were referring to the 1916 game. It was great but still mad today that we let them score.

Ha! I knew some smartypants on here would hang me with that technicality! I actually did know that. Just wanted to work in a WW1 reference since the game took place in 1916. :D

Was that the history trick question that cost Markus a semester?
