DALLAS (SMU) - SMU sophomore guard Bryan Hopkins has been named a preseason first-team All-WAC performer by Athlon Sports.
The 6-0 point guard is poised for a breakout season after winning 2002-03 WAC Freshman of the Year honors and averaging 13.1 points 3.9 assists per game in his first collegiate season.
Athlon calls Hopkins "arguably the best recruit in school history" and adds that he has "serious NBA potential."
Hopkins is the lone sophomore on the five-man list, joining Rice's Michael Harris, Shantay Legans of Fresno St., Jason Parker of Tulsa and Nevada's Kirk Snyder.
As a team, the Ponies are picked to finish fifth, trailing Nevada, Hawaii, Fresno St. and Tulsa.
SMU will open exhibition play with preseason trip to Vancouver, British Columbia, Oct. 10-14.
