http://www.fox4news.com/sports/colleges/97523862-storySpeaking with The Associated Press before Wednesday's 88-41 loss to top-ranked UConn, Rompola said the changing attitudes of student-athletes was another factor in her announcement this week that she will leave the school after 35 years there as a player and coach.
"Kids are not as coachable as they were years ago," she said. "I see kids sometimes talking back to their coaches and it's like a way of life. I'm just being honest. The rules and everything they get, they haven't taken time to appreciate. I was happy to have a scholarship. Kids nowadays are more concerned about when their next cost-of-attendance check is. It's just a different world."
She made it clear she's not talking specifically about her players, but players in general.

damn millennials. In all honesty, when you are losing by 47pts to anyone (yes, I know it's UCONN), it's time to go

Have a feeling there is a lot of truth to what Rhonda is saying.

If that is the way she feels then maybe it was best for her to retire.

There's nothing wrong with admitting you feel out of place. Hoops has changed a lot.
Her comments, I think, emphasize that we should probably go after a young and hungry staff more in tune with players we would go after.

Don't have to go after a younger head coach but if they hired a well known coach with a good staff (young or not) that would be good and recruiting would get better. Geno Auriemma is not young by any means at 61 and he does well as we all know.

Connecticut really can't be used as a measuring stick here. This year, they have beaten Ohio State by 44, Kansas State by 40, Nebraska by 42, Chattanooga by 48, Colgate by 44, LSU by 46, Cincinnati by 62, Tulsa by 60, Houston by 39, Memphis by 40, Temple 55, UCF by 55, SMU by 53, Tulsa by 64, Memphis by 43, Tulane by 58, ECU by 46, Cincinnati by 54, ECU by 43 and then SMU by 47. Can't replace all of those coaches.

Women's hoops is a joke when you see this. Insane. Are there really not enough talented women in the US to compete with the likes of Uconn?

I think that's precisely the issue. Men's hoops has FAR more talented 17-18 year olds that can fill teams across the country, compared to women for women's teams. Title IX basically created women's teams at every school across the country, and there isn't enough talent to go around. Plus, if you're a top women's bball player, you want to go to one of those big programs (La Tech, Tennessee, UConn), to play for those coaches, creating a self-fulfilling situation.

No, there aren't. The gap between #1 and #20 in women's hoops is like the gap between #1 and #150 in men's hoops. The gap between #1 and #100 in women's is like #1 vs Div 2 in men's. UConn picks and chooses who they want, and a dozen or so other programs share the other high level recruits. There is a massive drop off though after that.
If you picture the available pool of players as a bell curve, and highlight those who make the cut for Div1 scholarships, it will look something like this.

Because the women's pool is shallower, they have to go much deeper to fill rosters.

Again, take UConn out of the picture and we still should not be getting sweep and beaten by double digits by the likes of UCF and Tulane.
