This deserves its own thread. Great quotes in here.

“I said I’d stay there as long as I felt we were making a difference,” Brown said. “I’ve had four wonderful years here. There have been disappointments but I think about when Tim and I got there, where we were as a program, the progress we’ve made and the support we’ve received and the feeling in the community and SMU has been more than I ever could have expected."

Awesome news but I really haven't been concerned about losing him. NBA no longer an option and why would he leave for another college gig.

He has forever solidified his greatness by taking one of the most insignificant basketball programs the past 25 years and turning them into a solid Top 25 team playing in front of sold out crowds in 4 years. He truly is amazing.

3 more years would make this his longest stint anywhere and would see his youngest graduate. As long as we can hold onto Jank for continuity when Larry retires, I'm all for it. While I do think next year may be a challenge, we are still looking for that 1st NCAA Tourney win and I'd love to see SMU reach a Final Four before Larry hangs it up.

So 3 year extension sound about right? give him 4 more years and Jank can see end of tunnel. Probably have to up Jank's money.

Can someone with insight on the matter (that's you, Hoopman) comment on the stylistic and philosophical differences between LB and Jank as head coaches? While I'd certainly love for LB to stay forever, it'd be good to have a better understanding of what to expect for the inevitable transition.

thanks

There will be an adjustment next year to not having Nic Moore but our best player was in street clothes this year (Semi Ojeleye) and we add some really talented freshmen. I think we are still a 20 win team next year.

From what I have seen, Jank runs a faster pace of play offensively and runs multiple looks on defense. Defense isn't purely based on man, and when he goes man there isn't as much help from the weakside. Both take an approach of trying to shut a particular player down defensively, but Brown is more adept to trying to take advantage of a bad matchup offensively.

There will of course be an adjustment with 4 (or 5) freshmen next year (a lot of that I think will be in the ball movement department), but I fully expect Shake to take a HUGE step forward, Sterling and Ben to have huge senior years and for Semi to pretty much wreck everyone in his path.

My only real concern is a secondary ball handler when shake is on the bench, so hopefully McDowell can fill that void, but having Froling and Kapita/Ben in there at the same time should help them stretch the floor a little.

Oh, and please keep Larry around as long as we possibly can.

McDowell and Wilson and maybe even Emelogue (if health) will battle for minutes as the secondary ball handler to shake.
