With the Tigers nosediving and Pastner's future in doubt many in Memphis now expect the starting point guard Avery Woodson, who is graduating this year, to transfer. The kid has talent but hasn't received the greatest coaching in the world.

We could use an experienced point guard, and considering he is a graduate transfer, he should be eligible to go anywhere. Larry has had some luck with transfers, so should we give the kid a look?

What say you, TigerJ? Is the kid a baller?

Graduate transfers aren't able to transfer to a school in the same conference are they?

Supposedly Lawson's decision is based on whether or not Pastner stays too.

They can as long as they go to a graduate program that the old school doesn't have. To my knowledge, and I went to both schools, the University of Memphis doesn't have an MLS program. So the kid can get a masters degree from SMU as a teacher. Want to learn to be a HS teacher, i.e. basketball coach, Avery?

Okay, good to know. Woodson would be a great one year option until our stud 2017 PG gets on campus.

Two things:
1. the MLS program does not train folks to be teachers, that degree is in content, NOT education. Huge difference.
2. Memphis does have a MA in Liberal Studies.

I think we can find a program they don't have if we need to. That would fill about our only weakness (share time point guard).

I know you're right, I'm a student in the program now (GREAT program BTW), but in some areas a simple masters is enough to qualify you to be a HS teacher, and the subject matter would provide the backbone to be a fantastic History/English/Economics/etc. teacher. The program is full of HS teachers who came to be better subject-matter experts in their fields.

My wife is a teacher. To maintain her teacher's license, she just needed a masters in "something."

I agree about the program. I graduated last May with my second degree from SMU in Humanities from the MLS program, I am currently a student in the DLS program. It's great because of the night classes they offer, it allows working individuals the opportunity to continue their education in a ftf setting. I had two classes with SW and NR when they were in the program. You are also correct about the number of HS teachers that are in the program, myself included, they really target that audience, for those of us who think education degrees are dumb.

Of what stud 2017 PG do you speak?

We just need Shake to blow up his Soph season and have the NBA come calling so we will have a spot for a super stud PG in the 2017 class. Selfishly, would love to have Shake for 3 more years

Several that we having been working on for awhile. I was told the staff is confident we will land one of these guys - all are high major talents. Scout has done a pretty good job of tracking this.
