The MK Nic tragedy

Sitting here watching the tourney and realized, from a macro sense, what an absolute travesty it is these guys only played in one tournament game...think of the confluence of events which had to transpire for this to be so:

1.) One of the worst snubs in NCAA history...a ranked team not getting an at large bid.

2.) An all time bad call costing us a game on that Alford airball.

3.) An absurd selective enforcement by the ncaa w the tourney ban.

Of course I've always known these three things happened and I've used these events to create context for the bad breaks we continually get, but if you isolate them and apply them to Nic and MK's career it allows you to realize how unlikely these events were, how unlucky Nic and Markus were and how b@d@$$ they were to overcome it all and ball out until the end.

Gonna miss those guys...godspeed.

Yup....Sterling and Ben have lived through it all too. Hope we make a deep tourney run next year for them

There is no monkey on our back, we did this to ourselves. Also, this isn't a tragedy. At raggedy would have been deferring the penalty

I guess you've never been in the Miller Club - plenty of monkeys in there

I wouldn't go so far as to say it was a tragedy. I do feel sorry for two excellent players who through no fault of their own, got the short end of the stick. Hopefully, they finish school, graduate and make a lot of money as alums of a great University.

Points 1 & 2 are a tragedy. Plain and simple.

The tragedy is that it looks like we could have run deep into this tournament. We can play with any of these teams. The tournament is full of surprises so there is no sure thing, but I would have put more than a few bucks on the Mustangs to win it all.

It's funny... But as I watch I feel the opposite.

I just don't see that we had the depth to handle a six game run with Overtime games, foul trouble, etc.

Now: if there were no probation and Semi had been part of the team I might feel differently.

It would really depend on our seeding, draw and luck.

There ARE any number of teams ranked within a few spots either way of us at anytime in the season still alive.

But as I watch this year's tourney and reflect on our two previous seasons I can only think about the degree of luck you need in addition to the talent and desire.

Have we EVER been lucky?

We have all been around long enough to know we would have had Arizona's 6 anyway. Better to get it over with and move on.
