I hope the AAC was at least pursuing Wichita State.

I would have to assume that if they are interested in joining the WAC then the AAC wasn't pursing them.

Exactly why would they be pursued?

Adding WSU in basketball is a no brainer. It would be a fantastic move. Adding WSU in football make no sense. I'm pretty sure objective #1 of all the schools in the AAC is getting a P5 invite. The only way that happens is through football, and adding WSU football does nothing to help that cause. So, if they insist on basketball AND football, I doubt the AAC is interested.

I still don't see the appeal in the idea of the AAC adding Wichita, even solely for basketball. Unless I'm missing something significant (I haven't ever followed their program) they've only been great in recent years under Marshall. Prior to that, it looks like they were great in the '60s and in 1981. My concern is that they'll lose their luster when Marshall leaves. The wildcard here could be the Koch brothers, though.

Wichita State & OK State just announced a home & home series. Wish we could've gotten in on either side of that deal...
http://okstate.com/news/2016/6/10/mens-basketball-cowboys-shockers-announce-basketball-series.aspxOklahoma State and Wichita State have announced a two-game basketball series that will have the programs facing off in Wichita in 2016 and Stillwater in 2017.
The Cowboys will face the Shockers at Intrust Arena, a 15,004-seat venue in downtown Wichita, on Dec. 17, 2016. WSU will return to Gallagher-Iba Arena on Dec. 9, 2017.
