SMU Announces American Athletic Conference Schedule
Season Opens Nov. 11, AAC Play Begins Dec. 27 At Memphis

FULL SCHEDULE

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU opens American Athletic Conference play at Memphis on Dec. 27 (ESPNU) as part of an 18-game league schedule, the conference office released today. The Mustangs, who finished 25-5 last season, play home-and-home sets with Cincinnati, Connecticut, East Carolina, Houston, Memphis, Temple, Tulane and Tulsa, as well as single games against USF (home) and UCF (away). SMU concludes conference play with a CBS-televised matchup at Connecticut (Feb. 25), and home games against Tulsa (March 2) and Memphis (March 4). The AAC Championship is March 9-12 at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut.

The Mustangs' schedule includes at least 24 games on the ESPN family of networks and WatchESPN, three matchups on CBS Sports Network and the contest at Connecticut on CBS. At least seven regular season games are slated for ESPN or ESPN2 with five of those in league play.

Non-conference play is highlighted by home games against TCU (Dec. 7, ESPNEWS) and Stanford (Dec. 19, ESPN2) as well as road games at USC and Boise State. The Mustangs also play in the 2K Classic at Madison Square Garden, vs. Pittsburgh on Nov. 17 and then Michigan or Marquette on Nov. 18. The season opens with a pair of 2K Classic home games at Moody Coliseum versus Gardner-Webb on Friday, Nov. 11 and Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Head coach Tim Jankovich takes over at SMU after serving four seasons as associate head coach. Last season, the Mustangs went 25-5, finishing the season ranked No. 24 after reaching a high of No. 8. SMU was the last unbeaten team in the country, starting 18-0, winning the Las Vegas Classic title during the season-opening streak. In 2014-15, the Mustangs claimed the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championships en route to the NCAA Tournament.

The Mustangs return starters Ben Moore, Sterling Brown and Shake Milton as well as letterwinners Jarrey Foster and Jonathan Wilfong. The Mustangs add a pair that sat out last season in Ben Emelogu II and Semi Ojeleye, as well as newcomers Harry Froling, Tom Wilson, Dashawn McDowell and Leo Kontopoulos. Jimmy Whitt will sit out this season after transferring from Arkansas.

I haven't been keeping up on the renovations much. I am not even sure that they have started. Last I heard they were still raising the $.

I know it was a big part of their big xii push and they were all talking about it at the game last year. Seriously, that is the strangest design for a bball arena I've ever seen, including Houston.

Hard to believe a school would tell recruits some sort of building construction or renovation is underway when they haven't raised the money yet.

"But after falling short of a fundraising goal, and as a result of the project's complexity, plans for construction have been pushed back to begin in spring 2017. Construction was originally set to start in March 2016."
