Saw this in Eddie Sefko's column in Sunday's Dallas Morning News:

Former SMU standout Jeryl Sasser was cut by the Magic in training camp. "He never got on track in terms of his shooting," coach Johnny Davis said of the 2001 first-round draftee. "He's a good rebounder for his size [6-6], but for what we needed, especially with Grant Hill not being here, we needed to surround Tracy [McGrady] with guys who can shoot from the perimeter."

Is "Sass-uh-Frass" playing in the NBA as of today?

Did he catch on with another team after Orlando cut him?

Also what is Wille Davis doing these days?

i could have told the magic that he couldnt shoot 3 years ago.

didnt he shoot under 40% from the field his senior year? and that was in the wac, not exactly the nba. he shot under 30% in the nba, didnt he?

looks like his days of threesomes with D1 and nba cheerleaders/dance team members could be over. but who knows.........maybe the cba has a B squad of groupies. i bet they're cheaper dates as well, maybe a little dinner at the sizzler and then back to the red roof inn for a nite cap.

I don't understand the glee at Sasser not doing well. He played hard and well at SMU and I hope for the best for him, Q, Davis and others who are tyring to make it. Having NA players helps recruiting. Get it?

Good old Willie D... I think I officially creeped that guy out his senior year by saying "Hey Willie" whenever I saw him on campus. At first, he would play along and say "hey" like he thought he recognized me but couldn't remember from where. The final straw for him was when he was dropping his girlfriend off at DFW and I happened to be getting out of the car right behind him. The look on his face was priceless as he was hugging his girlfriend goodbye and I walked by and said "Hey Willie". What can I say, I was an impressionable freshman who knew nothing about bball before I got to SMU. Willie Davis and Jeryl Sasser were like my heros, even if they managed to blow like 6 out of the last 7 games in that 2001 season.

Damon Hancock is a different story. That bastard ran me over with his bike once...

You know, win or lose, that's the thing I like best about SMU Athletics. I feel like the atheletes are a PART of this campus, and a lot of people have stories involving them that aren't just like "Did you see that play on Saturday?!?!?!" I like it much better than bigger schools that isolate their athletes so they can think of nothing but the game.

Anybody else got any good stories about run ins with athletes?
