After watching the game last night...

If we were eligible last year, Semi joins mid season and we absolutely run the table. We would have had a huge chance to win it all.

No postseason

Yup......and yup.

I went to Vegas last year anticipating the return of LB AND Semi's debut. In true SMU fashion i got half a loaf.

I think some may be confused by the meaning of the phrase "of we were eligible last year."

Semi was eligible...SMU was not.

When the post-season ban hit, everything changed. I remember the devastating feeling that Nic, Markus and Jordan wouldn't have a post season. But I really didn't consider the possibility that Semi would redshirt another year.

As I recall that wasn't made public until sometime in December.

I really hope we get two years out of Semi but there are so many variables it's impossible to know now.

Perhaps with Semi last years team might have won a few more, won the regular season AAC title and finished with a very high ranking.

But had THAT happened he might not even be here today!

In the words of the brilliant philosopher Hayes Carll:

"It's hard out here."

And if we didn't cheat balls to acquire the roster we had, we'd have never been competitive. I don't condone our overkill of a sanction , but come on. Let's be big boys and understand the process and repercussions. Programs are about next year, not this year and certainly not last

Just pointing out that if we had been eligible for post-season, with Semi showing us what he has in game #1, he would have come on board, we would have been undefeated in the season, and had a big time shot at the natty.

I'm certainly glad it wasn't a pie in the face.

Basically I agree with both of the last two posts (before OTP's) but for ordaining us undefeated and a final four team. You still have to play the games... just ask Roy Williams.

But Hoop is dead on here. You want a relevant program tomorrow? There are few who could have had a four year run like LB did. Damn the torpedoes, damn the consequences. Mudiay, Frazier, marginal or completely unqualified student athletes. And it was going to stay that way with Kapita, Fernando etc.

So now we'll be a bit more below the radar and a bit better off gradewise. Hopefully we can continue to be one one and done away from the final four. Then get him.

For now I will take a sold-out Moody, attention from Nike, no further sanctions, good APR, consistent NCAA tournament appearances as a standard for our program. Hopefully once we are NCAA tournament regulars we can recruit 5 stars and look to have Final Four type success.

I hear ya, and wasn't trying to be harsh. Facing the difficult questions of what to do in the face of sanctions, I don't like to what if or look back.

Straight up, if not handled as eloquently as we have, credit to the staff and basketball ops, ours could have been program crippling sanctions. Sure, we could have made a run w Semi, but we could also not have a program. If Gary Williams, a GREAT coach, had just not redshirted Juan Dixon and started him opposite Steve Francis in '99 etc.....that still haunts me lol

Well that certainly makes no sense with a Budweiser unless I have missed something which is totally possible
