Let Sterling run the offense moreHe has all the intangibles... Can dribble, pass, shoot, attack the basket, and most importantly he is cool and composed. The whole offense just looks much smoother when he runs it. He has the "it" factor to make things happen. It's time to unleash it.
Not to mention he is the only player on the floor that has any "nasty" in his game. Something that is strongly missed from Nic and Markus.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreI completely agree. See my posts yesterday during the game. Yes Sterling is not a PG, but Sterling is still able to create for himself and more importantly knows how to facilitate the offense to get other players involved. Sterling is hands down our best player. Sterling even sets the stage on the defensive end of the floor. He played a really good game yesterday. He needs to continue to step up and take on the leader role on this team. Our team needs a leader and Sterling is our guy. Our team could be really good this year. I have already said over a couple of months ago that we could win a National Championship. I am serious. We just need our Seniors to be leaders on the floor, especially Sterling.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreIf we could somehow run our offense through Sterling and get Semi more involved. Semi should get more touches. Sterling can always get his whenever he wants. Run the ball through the high post using Frolling. Keep Ben Moore and Ben E. around the basket. Let Jarrey continue to bring energy to the floor with his motor. Let Shake continue to play his game.... The only team that could beat us is ourselves. Go Mustangs!
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreI think the team will continue to grow and get better. A national championship is a bit optimistic for my liking, but I do think this team will play at a much higher level before the season is over.
I've noticed Ben Moore really stepping up in a leadership role the past few games. Even when he is on the bench, he has been barking out orders to players on the floor-especially to Harry.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreSterling shot 1 for 9 yesterday and still had a damn fine game. Nic had those days too.
But the fact is: Nobody needs to run the offense if the offense runs. Close out the threes, grab the boards and off to the races. Right now we are doing 1.5 of those three things. Party at The Wopper!
Re: Let Sterling run the offense more
Agreed. We need to let the athletes run the floor and wear other teams down. However, you can't rely on that 100% of the time. A half court offense will always be a necessity down the stretch in close games.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreI would love to see Sterling try to run the Point a little bit. As stated earlier, him and Ben have the most experience with the offense. I think shake is probably the best outside shooter on the team and is much more comfortable playing a SG position rather than PG. Sterling has a good 3pt shot, but there are times when he gets the ball on the 3pt arc where a typical guard would catch and shoot, but Sterling only shoots if he is wide open and can take his time to set up (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). I think being able to move shake to a side and having a bigger threat for the catch and quick release will keep teams much more honest since neither Jarrey nor Sterling really do that.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreHopefully it wasn't just due to the weak competition, but saw some positive flashes yesterday. Lots more inside passing. Harry backed his guy out of the way a couple of times. Ben Moore really came on strong. Shake shot well. Semi was a beast and got involved at the perimeter. Ben E made only one silly shot that I can recall - and played well inside.
I agree with sterling taking the leadership role - assuming he can keep his nasty in check. The more contact he gets with the ball the meaner he gets - which is usually good for us (although not always) What didn't look much better was our free throws. We have GOT to fix our free throws.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreI definitely had that thought a lot during the game about letting Sterling run point. He not only can dribble penetrate but actually has the confidence to do it. He's not AI out there with the quick first step, but he does enough to get the defense shifting.
I also agree with other posters who noted that Shake excels more in the catch and shoot aspect. Let the players do what they excel in right? Shake - catch and shoot Sterling - run the offense, create defensive shifts Jarrey - dribble penetrate or cut along the baseline Semi - high post (mid range or cut to basket) etc
Re: Let Sterling run the offense more
Free throws are surely one of the most frightening issues. Harry seems to be adjusting with the game speed each game. Would like to see him use his big frame better defensively. Yesterday's game seemed the be the first time I noticed Emelogu playing with some real confidence. He can still get up-hopefully his confidence grows with each game and he can actually contribute more on both ends.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreI love the fact that Harry is gaining confidence and contributing more. I agree that he will be a major contributor down the road. But...reality check!!! Those guys guarding him yesterday were stiffs. He's not ready for a dose of Gary Clark...or even Brimah. But it will come as he gets fitter, learns the high post and gets confident with his three ball.

Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreSterling is the leader of this team as far as I'm concerned. Not just a go to guy when game is on the line, but the heart and soul of the team. I'd lean on him as the coach to get the guys going. He's the closest to Nic on the team as far as I can see (certainly has the IQ, experience, and competitiveness). He's the one I'd challenge to step up and pull the other guys along. Shake needs to drink more coffee BTW.
Re: Let Sterling run the offense moreSterling running the point just reminds me too much of Nick Russell running it.

Re: Let Sterling run the offense more
Right now whoever is at point pretty much looks like Russell. #HammerDown
Re: Let Sterling run the offense more
Too often it's Ben E. Although I don't remember Nick shooting 25%
