"We're kind of a five wing team"

"We're heading down a little bit of a different path," SMU coach Tim Jankovich said. "We're kind of a five-wing team, so maybe we can create some matchup problems for people. We've got a ways to go but I was really pleased with the way we played."

Not the worst place in the world to be. The rule changes a couple of years ago made wings incredibly valuable because of the no handchecking. Really can create an advantage.

I had suggested earlier in the year that we would probably evolve into a pick and roll offense because of our length and shooting ability.

I like what we played against McNeese, though. Kind of a "Pick and Rub" offense. Motion on the perimeter, use the length and strength to do a rub on the defender with a secondary player without it being a moving pick, which creates just enough room for a shot or a drive for the ball handler.

Kind of similar to the rub play in the NFL to get slot receivers open.

Interested to see it against better teams and against a zone.

Might be ok unless Ben Moore gets into foul trouble or gets hurt. Then we are pretty much done.

..... who can run the floor, hit threes, defend and beat you at your own game.

We are not nearly a top tier team. We can play with them at times but there will be some tough nights too.

We really don't have a length advantage at the 3,4 or 5 positions. We are about even length wise at the 2. We only have one position with a length advantage and that is the 1 position because we are playing a 2 guard at the 1 position. We are not a tall team.

Just responding to the comment that we have a length advantage as a team and we really don't.

We don't have height down low, sure. But Brown, Shake, both Bens and foster are all considered long for their size. We are long for a college team at the 1, 2, and 3.

Length and height are not the same thing.

We don't have a height or length advantage at the 2, 3, 4 or 5. We do at the 1 but only because we don't have a 1.
