How far we've come

In the last few years we have swept home-and-homes with Michigan, Stanford, UConn and Memphis, split home-and-homes with Gonzaga and Cincy, and we are 1-0 against Cal, LSU, Clemson and Pitt. Not bad at all.

Yeah but the DJ plays the wrong music and my nephew was bored once.

Going 40-14 over three seasons in the AAC, a bball conference far superior to any league we've been in since the SWC. A regular season and tournament championship. And near sellout to sellout crowds for most games. Again, not bad. Thank you, Larry Brown.

That SB and BM thread got me sentimental thinking about what they have accomplished in their four years here.

Indeed. I thought the sasser/Davis years may have been our peak. And yet, the best is yet to come...

Yes, the Sas and Willie D years were my fondest SMU sports memories until the 2013-14 season. I was still an optimistic SMU fan back then but I never thought we were capable of what we've seen at Moody the past three years. It's been a fun ride, and with the 2017 class, I'm confident it will continue.

The difference is that we lost the big games back then and we win them now. Generally speaking. I loved Dement immensely but he never seemed to motivate the 'stars' like Brown and Jank can.

Dement wasn't playing on an even playing field-he was the only competitive program we had for the first 2 decades after the Death Penalty

Lift the restrictions on Dement and we would have landed the big we were missing on those teams and we make the NCAA tournament.

We had Jay Poerner, what else could you want?

Mostly because the players didn't share the same sentiment re Coach D

He recruited a different type of player, to say it politely.

Poerner played 1994-1998, he was not part of the 1999-00 NIT team or the 2000-01 team that flamed out towards the end of the season. Had we managed to pick up a replacement for Poerner, we absolutely would have made the NCAA tournament both years.

He is however now a conference commissioner so he has that going for him
