Players We Hardly Knew

Postby AustinPerson » Mon Jan 23, 2017 11:28 pm

This Ted Kapita talk reminded me of other players who committed to us but never put on an SMU uniform:

1. Simeon Carter. This gentleman from Charlotte ditched us for Iowa State. The Iowa State fans are tired of him - he averages maybe a minute a game. Nothing going on there.

2. LaGerald Vick. This tall gentleman guard from Memphis ditched us for Kansas. Not a ton of playing time his freshman year. But he's averaging a little over seven points a game this year for KU. Not bad.

3. Josiah Turner. LB's first big coup from the Univ of Arizona. He ditched us for professional league overseas. Hard to figure out what he's up to nowadays. Looks like the D League didn't work out last year. Not sure what he's doing now.

Of course, we know what Mudiay and Kapita are up to. Guess Bruno Fernando will be at Maryland next year.

Any other "big names" that committed to SMU but never made it on the court?

Seem to remember a Skyline kid named Larry 'Grand-maMa ' Johnson. He did okay in Vegas methinks.

Larry did not "ditch" us. Ken Pye told him he was no longer welcome as I recall

Larry had a little stop over at Odessa College because the NCAA threw out his SAT

Not someone who ever committed to us, but what was the name of that big guy from Dallas who came to a bunch of games at Moody, but ended up at A&M a year or two ago? Didn't he transfer out of there after like 5 minutes?

Elijah Thomas is who you are thinking of. We were also in on Admon Gilder, DJ Hogg and Tyler Davis as they are all from the Dallas area.

Thomas transferred to Clemson and started playing last month. He is coming off the bench averaging 16 minutes, 7 points and 3 boards per game.

A&M is terrible. Probably a good thing we didn't get those guys

They are all "serviceable." I like how hard Davis plays. We could have used him.

You're kidding yourself if you think we wouldn't want Davis. Hogg too, for that matter. Their current coach can't coach.

Hogg/Davis and also Terence Ferguson who went the Mudiay route. Not sure how he's doing over there.

Not sure how he's playing internationally but he is projected as a mid to late first rounder in this year's draft.
