DMN Layoffs = no more Nichols?

Saw a post on fb about paltry mention of our game last night and someone commented that the DMN undertook more layoffs this week and Nichols was a casualty. More signs of the times but if true that's too bad - Nichols always showed us love

He had been very quiet on Twitter lately. He posted yesterday that he was leaving to go fishing in the Hill Country. If true that's out, that's too bad because he did show us love and he's a nice guy.

His twitter bio just says "writer" now.

Those A-Holes at the DMN never show the home town team much love but they sure kiss Texas' [deleted]!

i solved this by cancelling the DMN. It has been no problem living without it. THey have lost thousands of subscriptions in the last 6 months for a variety of reasons - the biggest one being it is not worth the price.

His place taken by "from wire reports". You can find the SMU score preceded by scores from games involving SFA, Purdue, UTA and Georgia Southern. What a shame.

DMN lost a bunch of subscribers last September.

That'll show them...oh wait, they will just fire our dedicated beat writer and our coverage will shrink even more.

Cancelling a subscription does nothing but give them fewer resources, and as seen by their moves, SMU coverage will suffer.

I cancelled years ago and it had nothing to do with SMU or politics. Local newspapers have to figure out how to stay relevant in an instant news world.

Exactly. As their subscriber count falls, they won't respond by doubling (or tripling) their coverage of SMU. It doesn't work that way.

News flash: SMU will always be an afterthought at the DMN no mater how many or few writers work there.

Bill has done a great job covering SMU the past few years. If he was laid off, that is a big disappointment. I know the DMN hate is strong on here, but he was everything you wanted in a beat writer. I hope they have someone lined up to take over SMU coverage, but who knows.

Chuck "Horns Man Crush" Carlton wrote the article today about SMU appearing in the top 25 for the first time this season. Actually a nice sized article on page two and well written.

Not sure if he will take over doing the coverage for SMU or is just filling in until they find someone else. Maybe not a bad thing, if he is forced to cover us. Perhaps he will want us in the Big 12 so he can get all of his eggs in one basket.

I will miss Bill, he did a good job.

He really did. I hope we've not heard the last of him.

I did not realize people still took the paper! The online version is tolerable, but I would not pay for it either...
