Always loved looking at Krebs' chuck taylors at Moody when I was a kid in Mustang Sports Camp.

I was more from the Larry Delzell/Bobby Rollins Mustangs Sports Camp era.

I was at SMU during the Krebs years. Saw some wonderful games.

Krebs was the real deal as you can tell by this story.
Of course, those of you who saw him play already knew that.

I talk with Larry Showalter before each SMU game if I can. I always ask
him if he has any eligibility left because we only have 7 scholarship players,
and he says he is ready!

A tragic ending to his life...thx for sharing.

A little history.....Both the Katy (Missouri, Kansas, Texas Rail Road), and the MoPac (Missouri Pacific R.R.) were headquarted in St.louis. Many rail road men were big sports fans and recruiters. This help provide a pipeline of sports talent to Texas from the St.Louis region, when most of the talent flowed to the East Coast. (think Bill Bradley). Two from Cleveland High, "Home of the Dutchmen" and one from Webster Groves, "Home of the Statesmen" made up part of this mid-50's team.
The first time I walked into Moody I saw the photo of Jim Krebs hanging in the lobby. It's the same photo that has hanged for about sixty years in Roberts Gymnasium lobby at Webster High.

I miss remembered - I went to Hilltop Sports Camp. I think Russ Potts would always open camp (but my memory is a little shaky from those days.). It was a great camp. Even had baseball on Armstrong Field - pre Wescott Days for the young whipper snappers.

Krebs on the cover of SI is such a great photo - wish I could have seen him play.

This was my era players.

Mrydel - You may remember about that era when Bob Prewitt took this team of
five players, none of whom was a basketball star, and molded them into a conference
champion. Individually they were OK but together they were a very good team.

Our team was very well rounded. If we had the 3 point shot then, between Larry, Bobby, and Gene Phillips, we would have been a very high scoring team. Korvar as the enforcer was fun to watch. Gone blank on the name but we had one kid with a tremendous vertical who could jump out of the building. Team played very well together much like the guys today.

Donnie Berg was a force as well. Mark, are you thinking of Bill Voight, who tried out for wide receiver one spring?

Can you imagine how many points Gene Phillips would have scored if they had a 3 point shot? Still recall that game against Texas (?) where he blew up for 50 or something.

Yes, Voight was the high flier. I tried to think of Donnie's name and went blank on both he and brother Doug who played FB with us. I am getting too old.
