He's dressed at the the Tulane game and for Houston, so I think he is cleared. Pretty clear though that Jank trusts wilfong more than him at this point. Not sure why, I think McDowel does ok on Defense for a freshman, and he is athletic as anyone on the team.

McDowell will definitely get the nod before Wilfong if he is healthy. Much better defense.
I think Deshawn can cause some issues with his quickness - so hope he is ready to go. we will need him.

I read somewhere that he could've played last game but Jank wanted to hold him out one more game. He should be good to go Saturday, and it is silly to suggest Jank is more comfortable playing Wilfong over D Mc when healthy.

Heard privately that Jank said McDowell's doesn't have the best basketball IQ.

In the Houston game wilfong came in for 3 seconds at the end of the first half and that was it, I think. Senior that has been in the program vs freshman who has missed a number of games, not ridiculous to go with the senior who will not screw something up in that situation, even if the senior is a walk on.

No its not-Concussion Protocol had him playing only in an emergency. In the first few games he wasn't cleared and that's not a Coaching decision. You can only be cleared under Concussion Protocol by the Docs. It would actually be an NCAA violation for a Coach to play a player who hadn't completed the Concussion Protocol Policy of a university (based on NCAA guidelines).

I do not think concussion protocol allows for playing in an "emergency".

Could see McDowell moving on after this year, with all of the talented guards we have coming online for 2017-18

his basketball IQ is fine. He doesn't shoot all that well when he has to make his own shot. Otherwise he will be fine. You cant give up early on a guy that is that athletic (see Ryan Manuel)

I know. Any idiot should be able to figure out you don't play an Aquarius from Oklahoma in Houston when the moon is waning.

He isn't near the athlete Ryan Manuel was. He is quick and not a bad athlete, but he isnt a bouncy athlete. I think if McDowell sticks the course he could be a contributor down the line as a Jr. or Sr., but I could see him get buried next year and transferring.
