Froling Named To All-American Athletic Conference Second Team
March 2, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AAC/SMU) – Alicia Froling was named All-American Athletic Conference for the second straight season, earning second-team honors, league officials announced Thursday. The junior leads the league with 10.0 rebounds per game, and is the only conference player averaging a double-double with 13.9 points per game.

Froling matched the SMU single-season record with 15 double-doubles, including seven against conference opponents. She scored at least 10 points in 23 of 29 regular-season games, eclipsing 20 points five times, with a season-high 24 points against Boston College. The post player is second in The American with 44 blocks, climbing to second on the SMU career list with 140 career blocks. She became the 23rd player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points, and is currently 19th all-time with 1,130 points.

SMU finished 16-13 overall, securing its first winning record in three seasons under first-year head coach Travis Mays. The Mustangs tied for fifth in The American, matching their best finish since joining the league in 2013, earning a six seed in the conference tournament with a 7-9 record. SMU went 11-3 at home, including a win against then-No. 19 Texas A&M. All three losses came against teams ranked or receiving votes (No. 1 Connecticut, No. 23 USF and [RV] Tulane).

The Mustangs play 11th-seeded East Carolina Friday at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT in the first round of the 2017 Frontier Communications American Athletic Conference Championship in the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., on ESPN3. With a win, SMU would advance to play No. 3 seed USF.
