Sixth man of the year. Incredibly deserving. He has been a vital part of the team's success this year. Congrats GU

In my eyes, he earned the award based on his performance in the Cincinnati game @ Moody alone.
That's definitely not the only time he provided a spark of the bench, but it was one of the most meaningful and obvious.

When thinking about it he was the epitome of a sixth man. We had 5 solid starters and only one experienced sub. He played the role the way it was made and was not just one of 3 or 4 subs coming in off the bench.

He has come a very long way since the beginning of the year. He had a lot of weight on his shoulders when the Aussies left and he has really stepped up for this team. I'm sure he will get a big oppurtunity to compete for a starting job vs Jimmy Whit and especially if we don't get a grad transfer big, but I love him coming off the bench and providing that solid D and spark for this team.

Yeah, that was big, especially with us flirting with foul trouble in that one.

the thing that makes Gu a great 6th man in our scheme is that he can sub for just about anyone in the lineup if necessary; when called on, he has run the point, become the 2 guard shooter or wing...or played inside and played great D while pounding the boards

From SMUMustangs.com:
Emelogu Named American Athletic Conference Sixth Man Of The Year
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – SMU junior Ben Emelogu II was named the American Athletic Conference Co-Sixth Man of the Year. Emelogu helped the No.12/15 Mustangs win the American Athletic Conference regular season championship after a 27-4 record including a 17-1 AAC mark. He shares the award with Jarron Cumberland of Cincinnati.
Emelogu played in all 31 games for the Mustangs and averaged 4.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and a 1.8 assist turnover ratio in 21.0 minutes off the bench. In conference play, the Grand Prairie, Texas, native averaged 4.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists, while shooting 37.8 percent from behind the three-point arc. Emelogu scored a season-high 13 against Houston (Jan. 21), before posting 11 points in the 60-51 win against then-No. 11/11 Cincinnati on Feb. 12. The junior started three games including at UCF (Jan. 25), where he played a career-high 37 minutes.
This is the third straight year an SMU player has won the Sixth Man of the Year award. Markus Kennedy earned the honor the previous two seasons.
Top-seeded SMU plays in The American Championship quarterfinal round at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, on Friday at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT. The Mustangs will face the winner of Thursday's first-round matchup between No. 8 seed Temple and No. 9 seed East Carolina (TV: ESPN2, Radio: KAAM 770, TuneIn).

I think GU is going to be pretty damn nice next year as a starter. Gonna make a sizable PPG jump. Bring that Sterling toughness and physicality
Under Gary Williams, Maryland had a run from like '90-'05 where they had few MCD AA, but had Top 15 teams most years. They recruited high school like we try to, 50-250, evaluating for system etc. They used JUCOs, we use transfers etc. Anyway, each year some 2 or 3 year contributors or glue piece, would become a senior and step up. That's GU next year.
