Easily the worst decision that doomed the program for 2 decades was the hiring of Kenneth Pye--and the permanent damage to the program was likely irreversible

Flanigan started that TCU game.
Was benched in third quarter.
Womack didn’t play at all.

They should not have benched either Womack or Ramon in that game. We did not have an adequate back up at either of those positions to pull off a Win. The benching of those players was akin to throwing in the towel (on a bowl game, on Caven's career, on SMU Football, on Ramon's last game). Here's the other side of the story...

Chris Sanders was terrible on those final drives - bouncing balls off the turf before they got to receivers. So demoralizing.

We've never had a real, true 4 year starter at QB in 3 decades-we usually run them off as Sophomores. Cavan even made Flannigan a part-time starter as a Senior-his biggest mistake. Heck we've rarely had an experienced Senior letterman QB although didn't former walkon McDermott actually lead us to best record. It will be interesting if we stick with Hicks or look for the next big thing who usually transfers after his 2nd year. Generally, you win with experienced upperclassmen QB-maybe its time we tried that.

I would agree with this. Especially in the case of HIcks, who when you sit and look at his numbers this year, was strong.
