Could someone kindly advise how many basketball scholarships we have lost for the past two years?
Thank you.

Our sanctions were 9 scholarships over 3 seasons.

2015-16- 2 scholarships (applied two early)
2016-17 - 3 scholarships
2017-18- 2 scholarships
2018-19- 2 scholarships

Uh, I think they were awarded two extra scholarships each year because of their quick attention to their misdeeds. However, the NCAA did announce that they were showing N Carolina U that it was paying attention, by giving South Dakota State a two year ban for similar misdeeds.

One part of me notes that for SMU - some would say LB - anything less than the termination of a program is a wrist slap. On the other hand, Jerry Tarkanian comes to mind. Maybe the thing to do is sue the NCAA for harassment which worked for him but evidently has not been considered by those calling the shots at SMU.

Maybe Blewitt's book would be one of the references.

Pretty sure members of the NCAA can't sue the NCAA.

Why not? Owners can sue the NFL.

I believe the there is a direct relationship between the scholarship sanction and of all these injuries this season. It seems to me that the sanction has forced the players to work overtime and that's how kids get hurt. Scholarship loss is a stupid and dangerous way to punish a team, IMO.

Someone with a better memory may give us a final answer on this but I thought that individual members / colleges / programs / whatever sued the NCAA to get their TV rights rather than having the programming doled out from Mt. Olympus which used to be in Greece but is now apparently in Indianapolis.

Maybe the suit was possible only because the Sherman Act was involved?

I guarantee that members can sue the NCAA. The first hearings may be all about establishing the standing and/or legitimacy of the lawsuit, but oftentimes the headlines are more important than a final verdict. (As if it would ever get there regardless...)
