Froling Named Preseason All-American Athletic Conference
PHILADELPHIA, PA. (SMU) --- Senior forward Alicia Froling was named to the American Athletic Conference All-Preseason Team, conference officials announced Monday from the league’s Basketball Media Day. This is Froling’s third consecutive preseason all-conference selection.
Froling has earned postseason honors in each of her three seasons on the court at SMU. The Australian native earned an all-freshman team selection in 2014-15 after becoming the first SMU freshman since Janielle Dodds to lead the Mustangs in scoring.
As a junior in 2016-17, Froling was the only player in The American to average a double-double, scoring 14.3 points with a conference-high 10.0 rebounds. It was her second straight season to average a double-double, earning all-conference accolades in consecutive seasons.
She topped her own single-season rebound mark by pulling in 339 boards, leading the Mustang squad that to the quarterfinals of the WNIT in head coach Travis Mays’ first season on the Hilltop. Froling missed the 2017-18 season with a knee injury.
In three seasons on the Hilltop, Froling has racked up 1,213 career points and her 884 career rebounds put her just 90 rebounds shy of the SMU career record. For her career, Froling has averaged 12.8 points per game, with 9.3 rebounds per contest. Additionally, Froling needs 34 blocks to become the school leader in career blocks.
The Mustangs begin the regular season against Louisiana Monroe at Moody Coliseum on Friday, Nov 9, at 11:30 a.m. The game is slated as the program’s annual Education Day.
