SMU needs a true point guard. We have been playing positionless basketball for a few seasons out of unfortunate necessity. Most successful college basketball teams have a true PG. Not saying that finding a true PG is easy. I miss the days of Nic Moore. Nic was more than a guy that could get his shot anytime that he wanted. Nic orchistrated the offense to perfection. Nic got other guys involved.
This is no rip on Jimmy Whitt. I believe that Jimmy is a good player who is having to play PG out of necessity. Jimmy is probably our best player this season. Unfortunately Jimmy's strengths are not running the offense and getting other players involved on offense.
This is also no rip on Shake or Ben Emelugu who both played PG on the SMU positionless basketball teams from a few seasons ago. As we all know Shake and Ben are not PGs.
I do not know much about Bryce Cook, but my hope is that the guy is a true PG.

I would take Shake over Moore at any position.

Nic had the heart of a lion and never feared the big shot. He was guaranteed money 68% of the time. Shake..,not so much. I remember that miss against USC.

If we get a true coach then maybe we’ll get a true point guard.

Shake's a great player and, if forced to, I'd take Shake over Moore at the 3-5, I guess. But Nic is the purest form of winner I've ever had the opportunity to witness with my own two eyes. Special player -- probably my favorite Mustang ever in any sport. https://youtu.be/8mF0eidHcOk

You remember Shake's miss against USC so clearly you remember Nic missing TWICE against UCLA. Right?

if you could swap Shake's mindset with Nic's mindset, sure. Otherwise, nah. Give me Nic, shortness and defensive shortcomings notwithstanding.

Yeah. I can't see Nic quitting on his team.

Distinguishing factor--when Nic missed against UCLA, the team ran the Kansas Chop to perfection. It just didn't fall, which happens. That last possession against USC...I don't know what the hell we ran, but it wasn't an actual set play and a terrible look for the dispositive shot. Not all of that falls on the PG (someone has to draw the play up, after all), but there are some differences.

Don't disagree - but blaming Shake for USC and ignoring what happened on last possession vs UCLA is not fair.
