Which would you have rather had?
Posted: Fri Feb 27, 2004 3:02 pmI was at S. Padre in December for SMU vs. UTPA. My wife and I were two of maybe 5 pro-SMU fans there, and we felt fortunate to be associated with the clearly more athletic, more prestigious, and better positioned team...after the game, I still felt that way.
SMU started 6-3. Pan Am started 5-13. SMU is now 10-15, and Pan Am is now 13-13, with a win over Air Force and a close loss to OU. I really wouldn't have minded having a season like the latter.
UTPA's coach, Bob Hoffman, was a candidate for the Baylor job before withdrawing when they hired Scott Drew. He's a good guy, and I have to think he'd do better in Dallas, which has to be easier to recruit to than Edinburg.
