Smith scores 20 in WBB loss to Memphis

DALLAS (SMU) – Jasmine Smith scored a game-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough to lift the SMU women's basketball team to victory against Memphis. The Tigers (14-9, 5-7 American Athletic Conference) defeated the Mustangs (11-10, 5-4 The American) 72-54 in Moody Coliseum Wednesday night.
Smith made five of her seven field goals from outside the arc, reaching 20 points for the second time this season. Kayla White added 15 points and now has 976 during her four-year career.
Memphis took control of the game from the start and led 25-11 after the first quarter. Each of the next three quarters were decided by just one possession. Memphis shot 49.1 percent for the game from the field and made 11-of-13 free throws. SMU shot just 38.2 percent overall.
The Mustangs play at Tulsa Saturday at 1 p.m. The contest is the first of three straight road games for SMU.
