GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa[rv/rv] SMU (19-6, 10-3 American) vs Tulsa (9-16, 3-11 American)
Moody Coliseum – Dallas, Texas February 23, 2022 – 7 p.m. CT TV: ESPN+ THE SERIES VS. TULSA (23-33): The Mustangs have won 10 of the last 13 meetings, including the only matchup at Tulsa last season. Let's inch closer to evening the series with Tulsa. This is a monumentally important game. Winning does nothing for us, but losing would eliminate us from consideration for an at-large berth. Just win and set up a huge game against Houston on Sunday for what could be the conference championship.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaI remember when Tulsa was added to the WAC and looking into their basketball history, which turned out to be pretty impressive. It wasn't that long ago they were an elite 8 participant in the NCAA Tourney. Have had some highly successful coaches make stops there. Tulsa can never be taken lightly. They played Houston to a 2 point game earlier this year so they got my attention. Just win, guys...but it would be nice if our guys could light it up from three tonight.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaDoes anyone know what is going on with Tristan Clark? He sat out last game and is listed as questionable for this game for an undisclosed reason.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaHas Tulsa made it to Dallas. According to flight tracker, flights from Tulsa to DFW and Love have been cancelled this morning.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa
Jank mentioned that he would be listed as questionable for every game as he is always going to be on a game by game evaluation. But based on what we saw of Tristan vs. Temple and what we saw of Frank vs. Memphis - I am hoping to see a lot more of Frank the Tank in these next two matchups. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa
Okay thanks for the clarification. I just did not know if anything had changed since he did not play against memphis.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa
You would assume that they flew to Dallas last night, but who knows. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaWow, in 2009 we were 13-30 against Tulsa all time. That shocks me.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa
Not a surprise. When the two schools joined the WAC, SMU beat Tulsa consistently in FB and Tulsa won almost every time in MBB.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaTulsa was very good in the WAC and early CUSA days. We had a good run early on in the WAC but struggled for a while after that. You lose 2 per year every year and the deficit piles up fast.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa
Saw on Joe Hoyt's Twitter feed that Tusla is already in town and the game tonight is not in jeopardy. Go Ponies! Last edited by shadowman on Wed Feb 23, 2022 4:36 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaHope Tulsa doesn’t mind.
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs Tulsa
Doubleheader?
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaThey've been to two NCAAs in the last 17 years but went to 13 in the 24 previous years with coaches like Bill Self, Tubby Smith, Nolan Richardson, Steve Robinson (FSU) and Buzz Peterson (UTenn).
John Phillips was both Self's and Buzz's assistant coach, and a Tulsa guy after working for Eddie Sutton. Went to two NCAAs in three years (2001-04)! However, he was 9-20 (5-13, 9th in WAC) in his last full year and started the fall of 2004 with a 2-5 record before being canned. Doug Wojcik took over after Phillips and was Tom Izzo's associate head coach. That didn't work out. His next job was College of Charleston. He was fired at Tulsa after going 17–14, 10–6 in C-USA to finish in a tie for third place in his last year (2011-12). SMU was 4-12 that year and hired Larry Brown as Tulsa hired Danny Manning. Tulsa has had ups and downs with Frank Haith and one tournament appearance in 2016. Is this his last year? Tulsa has been patient with both Haith and Monty on the football side. Maybe they don't want to incur big buyouts. So, after many rising stars came and left, they naturally went with a Tulsa guy they thought would stay. He drove it into the ground. Went back to a rising star (Wojcik) that didn't work out. Went with a big name (Manning) and then a retread (Haith from Missou).
Re: GAME THREAD: MBB vs TulsaI’d forgotten all that! That’s a good lineup of coaches
