Need coach who can teach...

We need to have a coach who can develop players. We had a good recruiter as the last coach, but the players often didn't develop. Sasser was a nice player, but he really didn't seem to improve over the years. His freshman and soph years were strong, but he didn't improve much his upperclass years.

Same with Willie D -- great talent coming in, had a nice year his junior year, but that's about it.

Need a coach who can not only recruit but develop players as well. These guys are young and need development.

I will admit I like the idea of giving Jimmy Tubbs a shot, but I attended the SoCon quarter finals tonight and was very impressed with the job Jeff Lebo did with UT-Chattanooga. Don't know if he would be interested in a job like SMU, but you can bet he will be coaching a big time program at some point in the future. He was one step ahead of C of C coach, Tom Herrion all night long. An interesting note...Tom's brother Bill coaches at ECU...at least for now. Not sure he'll be there by the time SMU begins play in CUSA.

Anyways, as Herrion and his staff huddled and discussed changes to match Lebo's adjustments, Lebo was switching defenses and reacting to Charleston's substitutions and his assistants were giving one-on-one instruction to the players. Very impressive and I watched a senior laden C of C team look like a bunch of deer lost in oncoming headlights.

My guess is that Lebo winds up in the ACC or SEC in the next couple of years. Not sure we could afford the guy right now, and of course he wouldn't have the H.S. connections that Tubbs has. With 3 key seniors graduating after the 2004-5 season, next year's recruiting class is going to be critical.

Who's more appealing: Jeff Lebo or Jeff Jones?

Tubbs experienced

One thing we know about Tubbs is he will bring in great metro players. Going to coach under Sampson at Oklahoma for 2 years can't hurt his experience either.

We have three coaches now who can coach since they have finally been given the chance!

We need a coach who can turn Hopkins into a true point guard. I believe that he has NBA potential, but only if he learns to be a distributor. Maybe give Sean Sutton a chance since OSU does have a great system and many times over the years have point guards who lead the nation in assists. Both Wojik and Jones were outstanding college point guards so they also would be great choices. I hope they get a players coach as the kids are more likely to respond I think

So I assume you are saying they are not responding now -- plus -- their job is not to get BHop ready for the NBA.
