My brother just got an email from SMU saying Tim has retired. I thought he did better this year, but am happy for new beginnings.

Like I said in another thread, this is wonderful news. It lets both parties move on with dignity. Aside from Larry Brown, he has been the best coach at SMU over the last 40 years. He also could have done more. Thank him and move on and try to do better now.

Thankful for everything he has done for the program. Didn’t have the postseason success we would have hoped for but we were always a winning team. On another not I assume this means KD will be moving on from SMU one way or another?

We weren't always in the top half of the conference. We had 2 terrible seasons in conference play that can be attributed to injuries, sanctions, etc. We also had a 9-9 season in conference play where we started strong but tailed out at the end. The last 2 seasons have been competitive. Unfortunately, our team was older so we would be rebuilding next season. Other than Brown and Dement, nobody has had much success at SMU since the 80s so his efforts should still be appreciated.

Okay, we’ll yes I meant when Jank did not have legitimate handicaps (injuries, sanctions) he always had us competitive in conference. Even this season I would say losing Jasey mid season created a huge hole in the front court. However he was able to adjust on the fly and remain competitive. Tenure certainly wasn’t perfect but not like LB left him in a great position with those sanctions.

Some sports writer wrote that if SMU went after Grant McC. they would have to offer big,big bucks. Really? He makes 600k at denton. He could easily almost double his earnings, move to a much better school, have significantly better facilities and not have to relocate his family in doing so.
My question is - is he the best coach for us? and could he bring important members of his staff?
Guess we shall see.

I don't know if he's in demand from other schools, but don't forget about his $1.4M+ buyout.

CA-M- I was not including the buyout since I expect that any coach we would pursue would also have a buyout. Also. 1.4 mil. is not (IMO) a big buyout compared to what some of the others may have.

Jank seems like a good man and represented the university well. I hope he enjoys a well-earned retirement.
With that said, I am excited for the future and what some youth can bring this program. It’s been many years since we’ve had a coach on the rise take the reigns.
